Requirements

Requirements include successful completion of 15 credit hours in journalism courses and a professional news internship. All students must complete Fundamentals of Journalism as their introductory course before taking other courses that count toward the minor.
Qualifying internships must include a minimum of 150 hours of work in a journalism role for a news organization. The Gallivan Program funds several internships each year with partner news organizations. There are no guarantees that students will be offered a funded internship. Students go through the same application and interview process that they would for any position, competing with candidates from other schools, and the news organizations make the final hiring decisions.
With departmental approval, positions that students seek on their own also can fulfill the internship requirement.
