Requirements

Requirements include successful completion of 15 credit hours in journalism courses and a professional news internship. All students admitted to the program must complete Fundamentals of Journalism as their introductory course in the fall semester after they’re accepted before taking other courses that count toward the minor.

Qualifying internships must include a minimum of 150 hours of work in a journalism role for a news organization. The Gallivan Program funds several internships with partner news organizations. With departmental approval, positions that students seek on their own also can fulfill the internship requirement.
