Internships

Jed Student Internships

Recognizing the importance of internships to professional development, the Gallivan Program in Journalism, Ethics, and Democracy financially sponsors summer intern experiences at several news organizations throughout the country. Students apply for the internships (as they would for any job), and the news outlets conduct the interviewing/screening and make the hiring decisions.

In recent years, the Gallivan Program has sponsored student internships at The Boston Globe, The Chicago Tribune, CBS News, Circa News, The Concord Monitor, The Denver Post, The Houston Chronicle, The Los Angeles Times, The Marietta Daily Journal, The Star Tribune of Minneapolis, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, South Bend Tribune, The Tampa Bay Times and The Blade of Toledo, Ohio.

Learn more about the students who received Gallivan-funded internships in summer 2020 here.

Details of the Gallivan-sponsored internships will be provided to students in the Program during  the fall semester. Students can apply at more than one news organization. However, if a student is offered an internship and accepts that internship, the student cannot subsequently decide to pursue another Gallivan-funded internship that year.

Information about other internship opportunities in journalism is also available throughout the year at Notre Dame’s Center for Career Development. In addition, students are encouraged to seek internships and professional experience on their own, especially at news organizations near their homes or at outlets of particular interest to them.
