Maricarmen Rivera Sánchez
Maricarmen Rivera Sánchez is a distinguished visiting journalist with the Gallivan Program in Journalism, Ethics, and Democracy at the University of Notre Dame. She is currently a reporter for El Vocero de Puerto Rico, a newspaper based in San Juan.
In 2017, she covered Hurricanes Irma and Maria, writing extensively about the storms and their aftermath with an emphasis on housing, public utilities, agriculture, and the need for clean water. During a journalism career that has covered two decades, she has also reported for such news outlets as the Associated Press and The Press of Atlantic City, New Jersey.
She holds a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Puerto Rico and a master's in journalism from Indiana University-Bloomington.
In Spring 2019, she will be working with the students of Covering America.
