Eric Nisly is a distinguished visiting visual story teller with the Gallivan Program in Journalism, Ethics, and Democracy at the University of Notre Dame. He has worked as a commercial photographer and graphic designer for more than 20 years. In addition to his own visual work, Nisly also serves as the lead streaming engineer at the new Notre Dame Studios.
Besides his professional credits, Nisly also has extensive experience in the classroom — in addition to working with students at the university level in South Bend, he has also taught photography and digital technology to students in Asia and Central America.
He studied journalism at Ball State University, visual communications at Ivy Tech Community College, and fine arts and graphic design at Goshen College.
In Spring 2018, he will be working with students in two digital journalism courses, Covering America and The Digital Newsroom.
